Building People
WIRP is now an official signatory to the Building People Memorandum of Understanding for Collective Action on Gender Equity in the UK Built Environment.
Women remain underrepresented across construction and the built environment, especially in technical and senior roles. Despite years of effort, progress is slow and fragmented, with pay gaps, attrition and stalled progression still widespread.
Building People and Women in Planning have led a sector‑wide project to map, connect and align grassroots initiatives supporting women. Ninety organisations have been identified, 50 took part in the survey, and over 20 joined the workshop. More than 25 groups have now committed to a new Memorandum of Understanding, which were formally signed at UKREiiF in Leeds, May 2026.
